1. Introduction

Welcome to Shades Level Editor Platform ("Shades", "the Platform", "we", "us", or "our").

Shades is a web-based level design and editing tool that allows users to create, edit, store, export, and share game levels and related project data. The Platform is provided as-is and is currently offered as an early-access / alpha version.

By accessing or using Shades, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and Privacy Policy (together, the "Agreement"). If you do not agree with any part of this Agreement, you must not use the Platform.

2. Eligibility and Account Registration

To use certain features of the Platform, you must create an account.

By registering an account, you confirm that:

• You are at least 16 years old (or the minimum legal age required in your jurisdiction).
• The information you provide is accurate, current, and complete.
• You will keep your account credentials secure and confidential.

You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account.

3. Demo Mode and Guest Access

The Platform may be accessed in Demo Mode without creating an account.

Demo Mode:

• Allows limited, read-only use of the editor.
• Does not allow saving projects, exporting data, uploading content, or creating share links.
• May be modified or removed at any time without notice.

4. User Content and Ownership

4.1 Ownership

You retain full ownership of all content you create, upload, or store on the Platform, including but not limited to:

• Level designs
• Project files
• Exported data

We do not claim ownership over your content.

4.2 License to Operate the Service

By uploading or storing content on Shades, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and transmit your content solely for the purpose of operating and providing the Platform.

This license ends when your content is deleted from the Platform.

5. Storage Limits

Each user account is subject to storage limits (currently 5 MB per user, unless otherwise stated).

We reserve the right to:

• Enforce storage limits.
• Delete content that exceeds limits after reasonable notice.
• Modify storage limits in the future.

6. Sharing and Public Links

The Platform allows users to create shareable links to projects or exports.

You acknowledge that:

• Public share links may be accessible to anyone with the link.
• Registered-only share links restrict access to authenticated users.
• Share links may expire automatically.
• You are responsible for managing and revoking your shared links.

We are not responsible for unauthorized access resulting from links you choose to share.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Platform to:

• Upload malicious code or harmful content.
• Violate any applicable laws or regulations.
• Infringe intellectual property rights of others.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Platform or other users' data.
• Abuse, overload, or disrupt the Platform or its infrastructure.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

8. Account Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if:

• You violate these Terms.
• Your use poses a security risk.
• The Platform is discontinued.

You may request account deletion at any time. Upon deletion:

• Your stored content may be permanently removed.
• Some data may be retained where required by law or for security/audit purposes.

9. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect user data, including:

• Encrypted storage for project and export files.
• Secure authentication mechanisms.
• Restricted access controls.

However, no system is completely secure. You acknowledge that use of the Platform is at your own risk.

10. Privacy Policy

10.1 Data We Collect

We may collect:

• Email address and account identifiers.
• Encrypted project and export files.
• Usage data necessary to operate and improve the Platform (e.g., error logs, performance metrics).

We do not collect:

• Payment information (at this time).
• Personal data beyond what is required to operate the service.

10.2 Use of Data

We use collected data to:

• Provide and maintain the Platform.
• Authenticate users.
• Store and retrieve user content.
• Communicate with users (verification emails, password resets, service notifications).
• Improve reliability, security, and usability.

10.3 Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal data.

Your data may be shared only:

• When required by law.
• To protect the security and integrity of the Platform.
• With infrastructure providers strictly necessary to operate the service (e.g., hosting, email delivery).

Our total liability shall not exceed the amount paid by you for use of the Platform (if any).

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Platform operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
